The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge enables talented young Africans to pursue a master’s degree while developing their leadership potential at one of the world’s leading universities.
The programme focuses particularly on themes of climate resilience and sustainability, although scholars can apply to a wide range of full-time one-year postgraduate courses at Cambridge (with some exclusions).

Eligibility
- Be a citizen of an African country
- Be resident in an African country (limited exceptions apply for temporary absence for study or work, and for those with refugee or internally displaced person status)
- Apply for a full-time one-year postgraduate course at the University of Cambridge
- Certain courses such as the MBA, Master of Corporate Law, Master of Finance and Master of Accountancy are excluded
The programme actively encourages applications from women, refugees, internally displaced people, and people with disabilities.
Application Process
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application is integrated into the University of Cambridge postgraduate application process. You apply for your chosen course and indicate that you wish to be considered for the scholarship.
Applications usually open in September for courses starting the following October. Course-specific deadlines apply (often in early December or early January).
